The #12DaysOfGiving gets a little bit insane…

Fundraising is fun. Fundraising on Crowdrise is even more fun. Fundraising on Crowdrise for the #12DaysOfGiving is the most fun ever invented. Some of the team have gotten a bit "creative" to help raise funds for their chosen charities. Some people might think it's a bit over the top, but we just think it kicks ass. In no particular order, here are some of the crazy challenges going on within the #12DaysOfGiving: Sean Gardner - @2morrowknight will eat a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach, and record it on video, when he hits 2K for his charity.Wanna see a cockroach exterminated without harsh chemicals? Donate here: crowdrise.com/day4scottharrisoncha Mark Horvath - Our friend @hardlynormal said he would shave his head when the total funds raised for #12DaysOfGiving hits $5k. (He actually has since clarified that he meant each charity hits $5k, but I think we can still convince him to go bald... it's for a good cause. ;)Make this happen here: crowdrise.com/12daysofgiving Me - I'm going to dye my hair blue, ...

#12DaysOfGiving Day 2: Dennis Crowley & Camp Interactive

Meet Dennis Crowley, our featured social good superstar for Day 2 of the #12DaysOfGiving challenge. His Twitter profile (@dens) says simply: "I like snowboards, foursquare and unemployment." We think he's being modest, though. Not only is he the co-founder of Foursquare, but he was also on Family Feud. (Yeah, there's lots of other impressive stuff that you can read on his site, but we ...

Dinner with a Homeless Dude
Meeting Mark Horvath, found of Invisible People.

As it always does, it began with a tweet.... 20 minutes later I was having dinner with a homeless dude. Actually, you can safely blame @GregHartle for this fiasco. Him and @tahlari, to be precise. After seeing @tahlari send a tweet announcing a presentation by Mark Horvath, champion of the cause to bring light to the homeless: Have you or someone you ...

Social Media Stole My Kidney

The focus on the Social Media Adventure is to demonstrate the power of Social Media to bring people together to form authentic in-person relationships. While the majority of the posts on here are experiences from my own travels, this one was WAY too cool to pass up. Amy Donohue (@TheFabulousOne ) is an "unfiltered & vocal woman" (Her words, I wanted to use "loud mouth") and often speaks ...

Random Tweet + Tesla Roadster = New Connections

It started with a random tweet. It ended with a ride around Winnipeg in a Tesla Roadster and a new friendship. I saw @KeithBilous tweet about how much he loved giving people rides in his recent "birthday gift to himself": A new Tesla Roadster. I responded and said I wanted a ride, too. :) Seeing that my Twitter profile says I'm in Phoenix, he joked ...

Couchsurfing VS Facebook – Which is more important to Social Media?

I was reflecting on how when I first launched the Social Media Adventure over 2 years ago, I wasn't really doing anything new... to me at least. The concept of traveling around the world to meet people for the purpose of forming & strengthening relationships was something that I, as well as many others, I'm sure, have been doing even before the advent of Facebook & Twitter. Better Than ...

Fun times in Dallas with Michelle Sedas

One of my favorite connections on the Social Media Adventure is most definitely Michelle Sedas. The short version of the story is that Michelle was one of the funniest participants ever in the "text Joseph to keep him awake while he's driving" game. (The long version would take a book... so, we're writing a book together) Why You Should Love Michelle Sedas Michelle is an amazing woman. According to her ...

Fundraiser + Book-Drive + Tweetup = Toys For Tots Success

It doesn't take much to touch a life... but it means so much. That's what today's story is about: how a small group of people are touching lives. I once heard it said that: if you can learn to read, you can learn anything. I believe that to be not only true, but also very powerful. That's why I love reading. A ...

Where is my Tuxedo?? (Another Reason I’m #LovinLogistics)

When I started the Social Media Adventure way back in the early days, I threw a few shirts & shorts into the trunk of my car and hit the highway to meet my online friends in person.  I wanted to put a practical application to the notion that the web is connecting us and bringing us together. Some things have changed since I originally departed, but the wardrobe ...
