Tweetup in Winnipeg, Manitoba – #SMMBT

"I'm having a beer at Earl's. Come down before the Tweet-Up." says the text message from JF Ratthé, the expert of Downtown Winnipeg Condo's. I don't like beer, but I do like JF, so I go. ;) JF is what Social Media is all about. He is a connector, through and through. He is funny, engaging and - above all - he is passionate. I don't think it's possible for anyone to know as much about Condo living in downtown Winnipeg than JF. JF is one of the original Winnipeg Tweet Up friends that I made when I first came back to visit Winnipeg a few years ago. SMMBT Tweetup Matthew Shepherd (@MatShepSeo) is the mastermind behind the #SMMBT tweetups. This evening marked the 3rd one, and I found out about through my good friend David (more info on him shortly), his friend (and my twitter pal) Bridget Gallagher &  Meetup.com. One of the highlight presentations of the event ...

Couchsurfing VS Facebook – Which is more important to Social Media?

I was reflecting on how when I first launched the Social Media Adventure over 2 years ago, I wasn't really doing anything new... to me at least. The concept of traveling around the world to meet people for the purpose of forming & strengthening relationships was something that I, as well as many others, I'm sure, have been doing even before the advent of Facebook & Twitter. Better Than ...

Epiphany From Paradise – Lessons from the beach in Cista Rica

Assuming you read my earlier post about why I'm in Costa Rica, this update will make a little bit of sense. Here's an excerpt from my first report from Paradise on my healing journey: No amount of rehearsing what might have been was going to change anything. So I decided that instead of thinking about the past the way I was, I needed to change the way that I ...

Fun times in Dallas with Michelle Sedas

One of my favorite connections on the Social Media Adventure is most definitely Michelle Sedas. The short version of the story is that Michelle was one of the funniest participants ever in the "text Joseph to keep him awake while he's driving" game. (The long version would take a book... so, we're writing a book together) Why You Should Love Michelle Sedas Michelle is an amazing woman. According to her ...

Social Media Adventure goes to Costa Rica

When I first launched the Social Media Adventure, I wanted to connect with online friends that I hadn't met in person. Very simply, I started driving and went to various cities meeting my social media acquaintances in real life. The support was absolutely overwhelming, and more often than not I was asked the question by those I hadn't yet met in person: When are you coming to my city? ...

Fundraiser + Book-Drive + Tweetup = Toys For Tots Success

It doesn't take much to touch a life... but it means so much. That's what today's story is about: how a small group of people are touching lives. I once heard it said that: if you can learn to read, you can learn anything. I believe that to be not only true, but also very powerful. That's why I love reading. A ...

Where is my Tuxedo?? (Another Reason I’m #LovinLogistics)

When I started the Social Media Adventure way back in the early days, I threw a few shirts & shorts into the trunk of my car and hit the highway to meet my online friends in person.  I wanted to put a practical application to the notion that the web is connecting us and bringing us together. Some things have changed since I originally departed, but the wardrobe ...

The Best Office Support Team Ever… Starbucks

As part of what Tim Ferriss (Author of Four Hour Work Week) has coined as the New Rich, I'm never tied to a single location.  I love being on the road and experiencing the things you can't enjoy from behind a desk. To do this, I need the help of my team.  Most of my team is remotely located (the majority are overseas) which is nice for scalability. ...

Best Birthday Ever… (I got engaged)

Today I had the best birthday ever.... Not only did I have a surprise birthday, but I also got engaged. :) Photo by Stephanie Quilao Here it is, the picture that made our special day public.  It was taken around 8:30pm on December 28th at my “surprise” birthday party. My good friend @SkinnyJeans posted it to twitter immediately and within minutes, @AZFamily (Channel 3TV) had also tweeted it. ...

The Secret To Running a Business While Being A Road-Trip Addict

With the launch of the recent #MBTweetRace by Mercedes Benz USA, everyone is talking about Road Trips. Yes, it seems like all of Twitter has Road Trip Fever. Now, I'm not so arrogant to say that I invented road trips, but I will be so arrogant to say that I have mastered the art of combining Social Media with road trips. (At least for me...) With so many people ...

Social Media Serendipity – Lunch with Lotay Yang & Surprise Guest Mariel Hemingway

Today was the best day ever. (Many reasons, but here's one of them) When I started the Social Media Adventure I had one simple but powerful purpose: To prove that social media has the power to develop authentic, genuine in-person relationships and help bring people together to make the world a better place. Since then, I have been a passionate advocate of the belief that amazing things happen through social ...

Trip to South Lake Tahoe for Pizza & Prosperity!

I love Lake Tahoe! Well, that is, except for the cold. :) This was my first time in South Lake Tahoe, NV and I wasn't sure what to expect. After leaving Canada a few years ago I don't tolerate the cold much. Even in Phoenix I get a bit chilly when it drops below 70 degrees... Anyway, back to the story. I ...

Las Vegas Luxury Hotel Choice: The Bellagio, A 5 Star Hotel

In my last post, I explained a bit about how I crowdsourced my luxury hotel reservations in Las Vegas. First off, thank you so much for sharing your experiences and giving me some input. I have only been to Las Vegas a few times, so your feedback was super helpful. It was also super fun... some of you had some pretty wacky stories to tell. ;) [caption id="" align="alignright" ...
