Social Media Stole My Kidney

The focus on the Social Media Adventure is to demonstrate the power of Social Media to bring people together to form authentic in-person relationships. While the majority of the posts on here are experiences from my own travels, this one was WAY too cool to pass up. Amy Donohue (@TheFabulousOne ) is an "unfiltered & vocal woman" (Her words, I wanted to use "loud mouth") and often speaks without thinking. That gets her plenty of laughs as a comedian, but it got her plenty more when, in response to @DiyaMarketing's tweet about her mother's need for a kidney transplant, she blurted out: I'll do it. I'll donate my kidney. What do I need to do? Here's the story as Amy tells it: Love the ending: "I gotta pee." The story has gotten tons of recognition in the media and #TinyFabKidney was a trending topic in Twitter. Check out the feature spot on The Today Show: There is still plenty of opportunity to help. As Amy mentioned in her ...

Fundraiser + Book-Drive + Tweetup = Toys For Tots Success

It doesn't take much to touch a life... but it means so much. That's what today's story is about: how a small group of people are touching lives. I once heard it said that: if you can learn to read, you can learn anything. I believe that to be not only true, but also very powerful. That's why I love reading. A ...

Where is my Tuxedo?? (Another Reason I’m #LovinLogistics)

When I started the Social Media Adventure way back in the early days, I threw a few shirts & shorts into the trunk of my car and hit the highway to meet my online friends in person.  I wanted to put a practical application to the notion that the web is connecting us and bringing us together. Some things have changed since I originally departed, but the wardrobe ...

The Best Office Support Team Ever… Starbucks

As part of what Tim Ferriss (Author of Four Hour Work Week) has coined as the New Rich, I'm never tied to a single location.  I love being on the road and experiencing the things you can't enjoy from behind a desk. To do this, I need the help of my team.  Most of my team is remotely located (the majority are overseas) which is nice for scalability. ...

Social Media Serendipity – Lunch with Lotay Yang & Surprise Guest Mariel Hemingway

Today was the best day ever. (Many reasons, but here's one of them) When I started the Social Media Adventure I had one simple but powerful purpose: To prove that social media has the power to develop authentic, genuine in-person relationships and help bring people together to make the world a better place. Since then, I have been a passionate advocate of the belief that amazing things happen through social ...

Weekend in Sedona, Arizona – Enchantment Resort

Occasionally, but not too often, I will be asked the question: Joseph, why do you love Arizona so much? I travel all over the continent in my shiny yellow car and I always seem to find myself back in Arizona before much time has passed since my last visit. This year, I have made 5 separate trips down here, and most ...

Social Media Adventure sings Kelly Clarkson: My Life Would Suck Without You

This post has been a long time coming. After many requests I am finally giving in... You see, anyone who knows me well knows that I am shameless. I don't really ever get embarrassed and don't mind looking silly. I sing out loud in my car, i wave at strangers, i do handstands in public. That's how I roll. For some reason, though, I was a bit reluctant to share this ...

Memorial Day Weekend in Phoenix – Social Media BBQ

There are few things better than a barbecue with good friends, but this one was over-the-top amazing. In my previous post I described how the Social Media Adventure is about combining my love for travel, people and social media into one exciting adventure, and about how my friend Stephanie Quilao (aka @SkinnyJeans) uses her site www.Noshtopia.com to combine her love for social media with food for the greatest ...

Social Media Adventure Goes Undercover at the Phoenix Suns Playoff Game

Well, not really undercover, per se... but I did get to wear a press badge. ;) Here's the story: After seeing the Suns lose to the Lakers in game 5 of the NBA Semi-Finals, I decided that I needed to see game 6 in Phoenix a few days later.  The next day I was flying to Arizona, in search of a ...

Phoenix, Arixona – Whole Foods, Whole Friends, Whole Lotta Fun!

When I started the Social Media Adventure, it was driven by love. (Insert a big Awwwwww, isn't that sweet? here.) More specifically, it was driven by a love for 2 things in particular: My love for people (and making new friends) A love for social media To be honest, what could be more fun than combining those things? I didn't think it was possible... But ...

Massages & Facials & Day Spas, Oh My! (A la Phoenix, Arizona…)

I love the spa. I go all the time. Most people already know that, though, so I'll share a secret that you might not know: I have never had a facial before. Well, that might not really be much of a secret... do men really even get facials that often anyway?  I had never heard of the idea, but when I visited the Suddenly Slimmer Day Spa in Phoenix, they ...

Foursquare Saves The Day… Almost. (The Phoenix Food Caper)

In case you hadn't noticed by now, I love Foursquare. If you're not familiar with Foursquare, it's a geo-location app integrated with social media interactivity. In non-geek speak, it means that you can scout around the city doing fun things and let your friends know what you're up to.  It's also a fun treasure hunt, where you can earn badges just like back in boy scouts. Yay! [caption id="attachment_316" ...
