Joseph’s Bad Hair Fundraising Project for the National Autism Association
Okay, here’s the deal, I’ll make it quick: here’s a really great chance to show the power of Social Media and help some very special kids in the process.
I’M NORMALLY A VAIN GUY…
…but I have gone over 7 months without a haircut. WOW!
I figure I deserve a prize, or money or some kind of a medal for this magnificent feat, especially considering how vain I am.
BUT, i’m not asking for a prize… instead, I’m making it about the children.
IT’S UGLY… WANT JOSEPH TO GET A HAIRCUT?
This shag needs to be cleaned up, it looks horrible.
Instead of appealing to my vain side, though, I’m going to hold out for a good cause: children living with autism.
LET’S HELP SOME KIDS IN NEED, SHALL WE?
Let’s raise $500 together. Okay?
Each day, I’m going to post a bad-hair picture until we reach our goal.
Will you donate the cost of lunch to help the kids with autism?
If you don’t, I might just stay ugly forever. Yuck.
Go to the Crowdrise Project Page and make your tax-deductible donation to the National Autism Assocation now!
Here is the Bad Hair Timeline
Day 1
Had enough of the ugliness? Go to the Crowdrise Project Page and make your tax-deductible donation to the National Autism Assocation now! Only $205 to go!
Day 2
YOU can stop the ugliness… Go to the Crowdrise Project Page and make your tax-deductible donation to the National Autism Assocation now! Only $195 to go!
Day 3
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse…
Okay, so we’ve met our goal… Hooray! People have been asking to see Day 3 anyway, so here it is…. I’m booking the haircut now.
In the meantime, feel free to go to the Crowdrise Project Page and make a tax-deductible donation to the National Autism Assocation anyway Maybe we can meet $1000?
Day 4
If you didn’t catch the news, we passed $500 and then was challenged by Carl Seier to get to $1000… if we do, he’s going to shave his head. (He thinks he’ll get more dates than me, even if he’s bald)
We are at $915 already and only need $85 to go. How about you skip lunch and go to Crowdrise Project Page and make a tax-deductible donation to the National Autism Assocation instead? It’ll be good for your conscience (and maybe your waistline)
Day 5

If this doesn't frighten Aimee off, I'll be frightened for her...
UPDATE – We met our goal of $1000 and Carl is going to shave his head. (Don’t worry, I’ll take pictures and shoot video)
NOW, Aimee Allenback has issued a new challenge. If we can raise an additional $500, she will go on a date with me. (At least that’s what she said before I uploaded today’s Bad Hair picture…) This is definitely for the children, so be generous.
Okay, so go to the Crowdrise Project Page and make a tax-deductible donation to the National Autism Assocation and lock in that date for me before she changes her mind. Like I said, this is all about the children.
Day 6

I call this one "Justin Bieber meets Justin Timberlake." Hmmm, how about Bieberlake?
We are currently at $1180 raised… in only 5 days! WOW!
What’s extra-wow is that if can somehow manage to raise another $320 then I’ll get a date with a super pretty woman who seems somewhat normal. Cool huh?
I think that’s good motivation to go to the Crowdrise Project Page and make a tax-deductible donation to the National Autism Assocation this very second?
Remember, this is all about the children. Let’s do it for the children.
Day 7

I call this one "the wings", even if that's a bad name.
All I’m going to say is you guys are awesome…. We have raised $1230, with another $100 pledged and in the mail. That’s a total of $1330. (Only $170 to go, assuming that “the check is in the mail” actually means that the check is in the mail)
To make it even more exciting and a bit more interactive, I’ve issued a new challenge. Want to use & abuse me? Get creative and I’ll be your slave.
Or maybe just go to the Crowdrise Project Page and make a tax-deductible donation to the National Autism Assocation this very second and do something that will make you feel warm & fuzzy inside.
Day 8

Bad Hair Day 8 - It's a good thing the haircut is already booked, huh?
Here is Day 8. Officially we have $1245 raised. We have another $400 that should be entered in, which means we pretty much rocked this thing. I’m cutting my hair, Carl is shaving his head, and Aimee is taking me on a date. I’ll post it when it becomes official, but in the meantime, here is your chance to use & abuse me… Get creative and I’ll be your slave.
Or, if you haven’t already, go to the Crowdrise Project Page and make a tax-deductible donation to the National Autism Assocation and donate even $10 for the children. Thanks!
Day 9

I call this one "The Pretty Boy" look.... Is it working?
Super big shout out to Sue O’Kane for her awesome donation today, and to @Amy1N for her awesome challenge yesterday to help us move things forward.
If you want to be mentioned like those awesome people were, just go to the Crowdrise Project Page and make a tax-deductible donation to the National Autism Assocation. Even $10 is fine. Thanks!
Day 10

This is the worst hair ever.
The hair is bad, that’s all I’m going to say.
I’m not even going to ask for a donation. Just have a laugh at the hair.
Day 11

I had to do this one in black & white because the red eye was so bad...
Can words even describe? It’s a good thing that this is for a worthy cause. I wouldn’t subject myself to this kind of ugliness unless I knew we could use it to make a difference…
Day 12

This is what I look like when I visit my grandma.
Super big shout out to Kelly Loubet (@Childhood) who made an uber-generous donation today. If you don’t follow Kelly, check her out. She is fully-loaded with wisdom on parenting, has an amazing blog, web show and an awesome van.
If you want me to talk about you like you are a hero, all you need to do is go make a donation to the National Autism Association. Okay, I love you. Thanks.
Day 13

This one wasn
Today is lucky number 13… maybe we can find somenoe to push us over the edge of $1500? There’s only $125 to go… Go ahead, be a hero.
Day 14

I
It’s exactly 14 days since I first posted and we have reason to celebrate. Last night, an angel named Leah Downs (@Barebrancheshvn) made a super-generous donation to put us over the $1500 mark. This is AMAZING news for the children affected by autism, not to mention how it is that I get a date out of the deal.
(Thanks to Aimee for the super creative challenge)
The haircut is scheduled for Tuesday night – come check it out if you can make it to Winnipeg – and the date will happen a few weeks later. We’ll keep you posted.
If you’re feeling like making a difference,
Join the Crowdrise Team and issue your own challenge.
Day 15

This is what $50 buys you nowadays...
Well, Laura Easterly (@lauralje) is probably my favorite person on the planet today. Check it, she offered to donate $50 if I would do my hair in that atrocious Statue of Liberty style do… obviously I did it.
What’s even cooler is that she joined the Crowdrise Team and pledged to raise a total of $100. Will you help her reach the other $50?
(I’m showing this picture prematurely, so please help out, even $10 would be awesome) Thanks!
