“I’m having a beer at Earl’s. Come down before the Tweet-Up.” says the text message from JF Ratthé, the expert of Downtown Winnipeg Condo’s.

I don’t like beer, but I do like JF, so I go.

JF is what Social Media is all about. He is a connector, through and through. He is funny, engaging and – above all – he is passionate. I don’t think it’s possible for anyone to know as much about Condo living in downtown Winnipeg than JF.

JF is one of the original Winnipeg Tweet Up friends that I made when I first came back to visit Winnipeg a few years ago.

SMMBT Tweetup

Matthew Shepherd (@MatShepSeo) is the mastermind behind the #SMMBT tweetups. This evening marked the 3rd one, and I found out about through my good friend David (more info on him shortly), his friend (and my twitter pal) Bridget Gallagher &  Meetup.com.

One of the highlight presentations of the event was the local downtown awareness campaign known as Downtown Peggy.

Downtown Peggy – Smart campaign, mysterious identity. As an attempt to promote downtown living in Winnipeg, the Downtown Biz crew introduced Downtown Peggy: a social media persona that travels around, incognito, espousing the benefits of what Winnipeg’s city-center has to offer. These gems are shared via Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare and her blog.

Winnipeg is typically seen as a really big small town, but there is some great promise in the Social Media Industry. Watch for great things happening in the near future.
