Foursquare Saves The Day… Almost. (The Phoenix Food Caper)
In case you hadn’t noticed by now, I love Foursquare.
If you’re not familiar with Foursquare, it’s a geo-location app integrated with social media interactivity. In non-geek speak, it means that you can scout around the city doing fun things and let your friends know what you’re up to. It’s also a fun treasure hunt, where you can earn badges just like back in boy scouts. Yay!
While I have had an absolute blast playing around with Foursquare, it’s rare that it actually serves any useful purpose. (That is, other than making me feel super cool by being crowned “mayor” of my favorite smoothie shop, or earning the barista badge, thus revealing where my “office” really is located…)
That all changed on my last trip to Phoenix, though. Well, almost…

@WayWay8
I was only going to be in town for 9 days, so I was at challenge to fit in all that I was hoping to accomplish. One of those challenges was connecting with one of my favorites dudes from twitter that I hadn’t met in person yet: @wayway8. We were trying to connect, but our schedules weren’t lining up.
Anyway, one random day, after dropping off my friends-so-close-that-i-call-them-family at the airport for their weekend trip to New York City, I started driving home with the top down and music blaring. In between verses of my hip-hop-song-du-jour I glanced down at my phone and see the Foursquare alert:
Wayway8 has just checked in to True Food Kitchen.
Score!
My favorite restaurant in the whole city, and it was only about 4 blocks away. A miracle was about to happen!

True Food Phoenix - Whole Food Revolution
Well, to make a long story short, I showed up but was a bit too late… I didn’t see him and I didn’t have lunch at my favorite restaurant. But hey, it was a close call.
Anyway, as a total side note, if you’re in Phoenix and looking for a great place to eat, be sure to check out True Food Kitchen, owned by Dr. Andrew Weil. They serve the tastiest organic, vegan meals around… and the entire vibe & staff are pretty much amazing.
If you’ve already been there, and are looking for somewhere else that is healthy & tasty, check out healthy eating maven @SkinnyJeans and her blog noshtopia.com. She, however, is someone I did connect with on this leg of the social media adventure. But that’s a story for another day…
